FAN MAIL FRIDAYS: Tips for Volumizing Hair

Happy friyay! I just received the BEST Sephora box in my life and it contains Pat McGrath goodies! Almost all of them! I can't wait to photograph and try out everything, and share with you my thoughts on it! For now, let's talk about our FMF for today from Eunice.

Hi Martha!
I have naturally straight and "bagsak" hair. Because of this, my usually looks lifeless and boring. Not only that, it also makes my face look big! I have naturally wide jaws so yeah, it just enhances my  wide face. Can you recommend any hair products for adding volume to the hair that's also safe for everyday use (spray, shampoo, etc.)? I've come across sea salt sprays, but I don't know if that's gonna help me with the volume. Help!
Eunice

Dear Eunice,

I feel yah! I have naturally straight and fine hair too, plus its naturally slippery texture just prevents it from holding curls and keeping in hair products; that's why I just keep it either down, in a pony, or in a bun. Boring life huhu!

But just like any beauty problem, it can be solved. Here are some of the tricks I personally use to add some 'oomph' to my fine, limp hair.

1. USE CLARIFYING SHAMPOOS AND LIGHTWEIGHT CONDITIONERS

- Sometimes, deep conditioning hair products may contain too much wax, silicone, and oils that may wear hair down and give it a limp appearance. In each week, alternate such products with clarifying, lightweight ones to free up your hair, giving it more bounce and body.

2. TREAT IT WITH EGGS!

- Eggs may be great for breakfast, but they're also good for the hair. Eggs are packed with protein that plump hair strands, giving it more life, making it more lush, and imparts an impeccable shine. Of course I wouldn't recommend you to crack an egg on your scalp; instead, go for egg- infused hair masks like Lush's H'suan Wen Hua hair mask that contains eggs and avocado oil. You can also go for Keratin- infused hair masks to get the same protein that your locks always crave.

3. BLOW DRY THE ROOTS!

- Heat is known to open the pores and give a little lift to the hair. After blow- drying your entire hair, blow dry certain portions of your scalp depending on where you want the volume to be. Finally, get a paddle brush and comb up and out with a little vigorousness to lift the strands even more, thus resulting to more volume.

4. DRY SHAMPOO, BABY

- If you have very straight, limp, and fine hair, you might want to skip shampoo on some days to prevent wax and silicone build-up, which eventually weighs the hair down. On those days, opt for dry shampoo; I also noticed that dry shampoos can increase hair volume significantly too!

5. LOCK AT THE ROOTS

- Going back to tip #3, blow drying at the roots, the problem is the roots won't stay lifted for hours--not even minutes because it's not designed to work that way. One best way to keep that fresh lift on for a couple more hours is spraying hair spray on roots.

6. SALT IT!

- Sea Salt spray became famous over the years for that natural, beach- tousled hair using only natural ingredients. I love beach locks and if I can have them forever, I would so I bought one of the famous sea salt sprays out there from Bumble and Bumble; I didn't get the beach locks that I was hoping to get with this product and I realized, this works better on more textured hair; if you have this hair type, great for you!

That's all and have an awesome Friday!
