Sumptuous Sundays: Bawai's

Hello everyone! I recently went to Tagaytay with my BF to celebrate our 5th year of togetherness, and we ate in this semi- secret resto that serves FABULOUS authentic Vietnamese food! :D Read on! :D

Tucked away from the busy highways and commercial(ized) centers of Tagaytay is Bawai's, a Vietnamese restaurant located in one of the inner barangays of the vicinity.

PRICE RANGE: P30.00- P400.00

As you can see, it is just a house converted into a restaurant. Parking space is a bit tough, especially on weekends because people really drive off to this place because their meals are THAT great.

If I remember it correctly, the BF had to call and pick our dishes 2 days before our visit. According to him, Bawai's wants to keep everything fresh so they don't overstock on ingredients, although you can still go straight to the restaurant and take a chance on what they can offer. But if you really want to enjoy your visit, then I suggest you give them a call and order beforehand.

Awesome Pandan Ice Tea is awesome. The Tamarind Juice has a sweet-sour taste. If you love Tamarind candies, then you'll definitely like their Tamarind Juice.

Chao Tom (Prawn on Sugar Cane Skewer) is one of their best- selling appetizers. The shrimps are somewhat boiled and roasted in various spices. It goes so well with Bawai's special vinegar dip. Unfortunately, the sugar canes are inedible. :D

Goi Cuon (Vietnamese Fresh Roll) is such a healthy delight! The peanut sauce that goes with it is to die for!

Goi Thit Tom (Summer Veggie Salad) is a mixture of crunchy veggies on a leaf of lettuce. This is pure green goodness--the dressing is so divine, and the deep fried onion strips and crushed peanut garnishing give it a piquant kick. I love how well put this dish is. I recommend it!

Tom Rang Mae (Prawn On Tamarind) is a plate of chunky prawns in Tamarind Baste. It's so good!

Com Suon Cha (Pork Liempo Grill) is Bawai's take on the classic Liempo recipe. It has a juicy, smoky taste. At first bite, you'll instantly taste the amalgam of spice rubbed onto the meat. It's not like ordinary Liempo meals that only taste like barbecue sauce.

The yellow pie slice that comes with it is Egg and mushroom pie. :)

A Vietnamese meal is never without the classic Pho. This is their Pho Bo, (Beef Pho) a fragrant and tasty bowl of rice noodles and beef stock.

However, they only serve one kind of dessert: Pandan Monggo. It's actually yummy: never overbearing, and size is just right.

If you love Vietnamese food, head all the way to Tagaytay this weekend and experience Bawai's sumptuous dishes. It's really worth the trek, I'm telling y'all. :)

Please visit Bawai's Tagaytay on Facebook for more details about the restaurant.
