Prom season is here! It's probably the most- awaited event in Highschool because students get to take a break from their uniforms and show off their individual styles.
In doing your prom makeup, make sure to keep everything dewy, light, and young. You may opt for smokey eyes, but make sure they don't look too bold or wild.
When I was in junior high, I didn't know much about makeup, so I went to a makeup artist in a cheap salon to have my face done for my Prom night. He was pretty talented with eye makeup, but I looked 10 years older with what he did to me. I wish I knew back then what I know now so I would've sported the look that's apt for my gown and age, not to mention saved more money by doing my own makeup.
If you're really clueless, and afraid to do your makeup on your big day, you can have it done by a makeup artist. Piece of advice, tell them what you really want so you will end up happy with your makeup. Or if you're daring and courageous, buy yourself a small makeup collection and experiment with makeup looks before your big day.
Here's a sweet take on the classic smokey eye makeup look. I've also included a tutorial in it, and a list of the products I've used. Remember, you don't have to buy what I've used. Just take note of the colors, and search for them in malls. :)
STEP 1:
Groom your brows first. Tweeze any stray hair and shave regrowths for a cleaner face. Here's a tutorial on how to groom your brows.
Next, apply a cream- colored eyeshadow all over your lid to neutralize whatever discoloration or unevenness your lids have. I've used MAC in Ricepaper. It's not too yellow, and not too white which makes it a perfect eyeshadow base for me.
STEP 2:
Using a dark grey eyeshadow, apply some on half of your lids. I've used Anna Sui Eye Color Accent in 005. I chose dark grey because it works the same as black, but without the striking effect.
STEP 3:
Using a bullet brush, slowly smudge the dark grey eyeshadow in an upward motion. Make sure that the color is evenly distributed all over your lids, while avoiding the brow bone area.
STEP 4:
Apply a silver eyeshadow using a small eyeshadow brush on your brow bone to highlight your brow's shape, and to give your eyes a nice glow. I've used Urban Decay's Uzi from Book Of Shadows 3.
STEP 5:
Carefully apply eyeliner on your lash line starting from the middle part going outwards. You can slightly wing it, if you wish. Fill in the inner lash line with the eyeliner slowly and carefully to seal your look.
STEP 6:
Using a baby pink blush and a dome blush brush, gently sweep some on your cheeks in a straight motion for a 'Flushed' look. I've used Inglot Powder Blush.
STEP 7:
Using again a small eyeshadow brush and a silver eyeshadow, gently dot some of the eyeshadow on the area of your eyes near your nose bridge.
STEP 8:
Repeat the same procedure in Step 7 but this time, apply the eyeshadow on your tear drop.
STEP 9:
Finish your look with a baby pink lipstick/pastel pink with lilac undertones such as YSL Rouge Pur in Rose Pink. Unfortunately, this one is unavailable locally anymore. There are a lot of dupes for this color though.
Easy as pie! I've learned that doing your Prom makeup look shouldn't be a matter of life-and-death after all. How I wish I could go to a Prom this month! :)

I hope a lot of young girls will see this post so they will have an idea about make up and dress for their Prom Night. If I am to attend, I'll go for smokey eye make up since prom usually happens at night.
ReplyDeleteI love all the sample prom dresses you featured in your post.
Aaaahhh!! This post made me reminisce my highschool days. Good times! :-)
ReplyDeleteThat lipstick looks lovely on you. :-)
Amazing tutorial! Namiss ko tuloy ang HS life. I don't know much about applying make-up non, that's why sa cousin ko lang ako nagpa make-up, at kapag naaalala ko yun, sabi ng brother ko, ang kapal kapal daw ng make-up ko at muka akong matanda. Even my close friends told me that, sana daw ako nalang ang nag make-up sa sarili ko. And everytime nakikita ko yung picture ko ng prom, natatawa ako, sana nung mga panahon na yon, nahilig na ko sa make-up at sa pagbabasa ng mga blogs. Well anyway, i'm going to try this look to someone (like my cousins) na magpoprom . Thanks Ms.Martha for the great idea!
