Canmake is slowly becoming one of my favorite brands because their products are not just cute-they actually deliver! I don't remember having a bad experience with the Canmake products I own. My favorite skin care items from the brand would have to be the Toning Lotion and Brightening Facial Wash (just an update, this facial wash turned my face into a shade lighter after 3 months of usage. It's sad because I lost my tan, but at least I've proven that its whitening promise is really effective!), and for makeup, it would be this: Canmake Marshmallow Finish Powder, this multitasking setting/blotting powder that's too good for its price!

Marshmallow Finish Powder is made up of 72% mineral ingredients and promises a marshmallow- like texture and finish. It mattifies, conceals lines and pores, sets makeup, retouches makeup, and nourishes the skin with 10 skin care ingredients namely Aloe Vera Leaf Extract, Rosemary Extract, Chamomile Extract, Lemon Extract, Horse Chestnut Extract, Shiso Leaf Extract, Squalene, Jojoba, Olive, and Grapeseed oil, and protects with SPF 26. It's also free from mineral oil, paraben, tar- based pigments, surfactants, and fragrance.

It comes in this princess-y packaging that reminds me of the glamorousness of Majolica Majorca.

More about this very good drugstore face powder from Canmake after the jump!

The puff that comes with it is pretty soft, but I find that it just grabs too much powder and I end up getting that powdery look so I use a brush instead to apply it.

In Canmake's website, there are only two shades: MO (Matte Ochre) and MB (Matte Beige Ochre). What I have is MH-which I suppose is a new shade as it is not registered in the website-and perhaps it's Matte Honey Ochre? Just guessing!

MH is a medium dark shade with a mix of yellow and olive undertones. I find that this shade fits my skin tone nicely, but I don't use it with shade- matching liquid bases because the olive undertone in this powder darkens 'em further.

The Japanese really mean what they say because this powder truly has a soft, creamy, marshmallow- like texture, albeit it's chalky. It has no scent, finish is semi- matte, and feels pretty weightless on the skin. Coverage is medium to heavy, which is pretty impressive for an affordable face powder in my opinion-it conceals micro wrinkles, light to moderate hyper pigmentation, redness, and small bumps.

One layer of Marshmallow Finish Powder

It's pretty pigmented that it can intensify the coverage of your liquid face base so if you're going to use it to set your liquid base, use sparingly. I like using this with bases that tend to fade during wear such as BB Creams and Tinted Moisturizers because one swipe is all I need to replenish coverage. I even wear this alone on top of moisturizer because I find that it can pass off as powder foundation!

TIP: Use a fluffy brush to diffuse the powder particles on the skin for an even softer, skin- like finish.

The talent of this powder is it imparts a soft finish (but not quite soft focus) despite its amazing coverage and pigmentation. Staying power is awesome because even though oil would seep by the 3rd hour, coverage still stays brilliant the whole day. The secret behind its good wear time is the silicone- coated pigments that keep the powder intact on the skin.

This powder is good for oily, oily/normal combination skin, and even dry skin because it has this semi- creamy texture. It's a better version of your average pressed powder as it has better coverage, offers tons of benefits, and to date, this is the drugstore pressed powder that has the nicest overall quality in my opinion.

11 Lovely Thoughts

  1. Wow, that seems interesting. I have oily skin and that would match my skin perfectly. But I live in Iloilo so I don't have the access to the product. Anyways, thanks for reviewing. :)

  2. My friends are crazy about this brand! I hope I can find one that'll fit my skin-tone nicely as well. :)

  3. Whoa, didn't expect a japanese brand (aside from the really big ones like Shiseido etc.,) to have a shade range that covers darker skin tones, definitely checking this out and the brightening facial wash because my face is darker than my body even though I used sunscreen everyday.

  4. This is on my wishlist! I really like the aesthetics of Canmake, the not-overdone princess vibe appeals to me. I'm also glad to see that this product in particular works pretty well, thanks for the review!

  5. Oooh. Gives you that beachy, tanned glow. :) --Matromao

  6. Seems really promising! Good thing it's affordable for it's performance :) I might try this out when I hit the pan of my current trusted pressed powder :)

  7. I agree, the case is so princess-y! After emptying, you can keep it:) I think this will suit my skin. Currently using some canmake products:) Lovely line in general!

  8. I love canmake cute princess cases + they have great products and they don't break me out which is great.

  9. This is actually my first time to know about this product Canmake, and wow it surely made a pretty good impression on me! For that price, that is worth it, the coverage is very foundation like, and the packaging is so vintage princess-like :)

  10. Sylden: Thanks for visiting my blog! Hope you can try this soon! :D

Kim and Jen: Agree! Anything Japanese, I love and Canmake is included!

Carmela: Awesome! I don't break out from their skin care products too!

Betsy: Yay! Let me know how you like it!

Matromao: Yup yup! Currently, it's the only affordable pressed powder that sorta' matches my skin tone, next to the face shop's lovely me:ex angel powder pact. :)

    Becomingsleek: you're welcome, Pat! :)

Cel: oh! This powder has sunscreen so you might want to consider it for added protection. :)

Cath: I think you will because there are more shade options for fair- skinned ladies!

  11. Bought this tonight because Canmake in SM Makati has a promo - you get the cheek cream and cheek/bronzer for free when you buy the Finishing Powder. But of course I checked your review first before I purchased! :p
