THE VERDICT:

Thank God for technology, you can look flawless, smooth, poreless, and even blue, green, or vintage-y with the help of a filter. It used to be fun, but now, most people see it as an alternate world, a much acceptable form of Photoshop, and worse, an excuse to neglect good skin care habits. If you plan to live on Instagram and not show up to your friends and family, I guess that would be fine, but hey, we're real people and we need real solutions. Got bad skin? Treat it. Forming a good habit will do you more good in the long run than excessive photo filtering.

The road to great skin is a long process, but it doesn't mean that you can't be confident with your current skin now-this is why there's makeup to help you in the meantime, and The Body Shop is offering a much better alternative to photo filters through Instablur.

THE BODY SHOP ALL-IN-ONE INSTABLUR IN DETAIL

Instablur is a 5-in-one primer that smoothes skin's texture, prolongs makeup, covers up pores, controls shine, and conditions skin. It comes in one universal shade.

Methinks this is the new and improved version of The Body Shop's Matte It Lip and Face Primer, one of my favorite primers. However, you can't use this product on the lips!

Ingredients

More about this product after the cut!

Texture is velvety and powdery smooth, translucent, and a dollop covers up a good amount of skin. It's got polymers and silicones so stay away if you tend to break out from these ingredients, but the good news is it's fragrance- free and doesn't make my face feel irritatingly matte and dry!

It has a chalky consistency so you need to blend it out for a while to get an even payoff. Despite the thick- looking texture, it feels absolutely weightless and mattifies my skin instantly-it also provides a very nice and smooth base for perfect foundation application. I noticed that it tends to react to alcohol or salicylic acid- based toners though-just thought you'd like to know!

Sometimes, my new camera can be so unforgiving. LOL! :D

One layer of Instablur

Notice that my skin looked smoother, more matte, and the appearance of blackheads have been minimized-it also improves the coverage of liquid bases too.

It's not filter, it's Instablur!

Here's a zoomed out view. This is me, wearing Instablur under my makeup. I used a sheer base to show everyone that this product can make the skin look decent in photos-no filter needed!

It works well with any type of base and can control oil for up to 4 hours, but I saw a slight decrease in my makeup's coverage by the 5th hour. If you have very oily skin, wear it with long- wearing makeup.

Instablur is more a skin smoothing product just like Benefit's The Porefessional. What I like about it is it enhances my skin in pictures, but I still look like ME in the end. My issues would be the price and I wish it had their old primer's awesome makeup- retaining power. Nonetheless, this is a good product to try if you're looking for a product that will make your skin look smoother and more plump.

12 Lovely Thoughts

  1. Would you go so far as to calling this a Porefessional dupe? :)

  2. It's kinda pricey nga for a primer that won't last long enough. Anyway, as long as it gives the right coverage it must be worth a try. And it looks good on you, I hope it does the same on me. :)

  3. This might be the answer to my stubborn white and blackheads. I really want to try this soon.

  4. I have to try this when I am done with my porefessional. Thank you for the great review! xx

  5. I think I would still go for The Benefit Porefessional. Kasi this product is for skin smoothing lang in picture and not that much staying power compared to Benefit Porefessional na skin smoothing na, makes your makeup last longer pa. :) Konti lang naman difference niya sa porefessional. Feeling ko mas sulit yung sa Benefit. Opinion ko lang naman. :))Pero gusto ko na against ang The Body Shop sa animal testing. :)

  6. I would just like to clarify something po. Against animal testing po ang The Body Shop ayon sa label niya pero under siya ng L'oreal (Source: http://www.loreal.com/brands/brands-homepage.aspx ), a brand known sa animal testing. Nagughuluhan po ako. Niloloko po ba tayo ng label ng The Body Shop? or kahit under siya ng L'oreal ay di siya naga-animal testing? or di na po nag-aanimal testing ang L'oreal? :))

  7. The texture does look more velvety as opposed to Benefit Porefessional's light, creamy or Maybelline Baby Skin's gel-velvet. But it's closer to Baby Skin, I think? anyway, blur creams and silicone primers are wonderful, wonderful things...as long as you don't break out from them. Next up, I'm hoping Garnier bring the blur cream and micellar water to Asia. --Matromao

  8. Finally! I've been waiting for a review dedicated entirely about this product. It features everything I'd want a primer/base to feature and more! It being fragrance free is a plus for me!

Your skin looks absolutely perfect but I kinda expected the price to be lesser that 1195. So if I were to choose between this and the famous and most reliable Benfit porefessional, I'd probably choose Benefit instead. :)

  9. Awww.. i think the price is too much for a 25ml tube. But if it's that good, then I'd consider it,. Especially that it might be comparable to Porefessional, since this one is more available. I think people will be more likely to purchase this than Poressional.

  10. Shary: By 80% :)

Foodworldme: yup, it's closer to Maybelline.

Oh wow, if that happens, I'd gladly try those Garnier products you mentioned. :)

Laarni: You're welcome and welcome to my blog! :)

Jona: Thanks for sharing your thoughts. :)

Michelle: Hello and welcome to TBJ! Hope you'll like it! :)

Abegaill: Please do share your experience with this product when you're able to try it. :)

Jona: According to what I read, Dame Anita Roddick sold TBS to L'Oreal because she wanted to inspire change in a company that conducts animal testing and let them know that there are other, better, and kinder ways to make cosmetics. :)

  12. Hi there, I'm just wondering which one is better in your opinion? The tbs intablur or etude house beauty shot face blur. I'm planning to buy a primer between these two, but I kinda confuse which product is better. Thx ^^
