BEAUTY BATTLES: Best Softening Hair Oil

BEAUTY BATTLES Best Softening Hair Oil mise en scene perfect hair serum vs. kerastase elixir ultime morena filipina hair blog
Happy Monday, Beshies! One product that I have been into lately are hair oils. This lockdown has pushed me to look after my hair more (perhaps due to the absence of hair salons in our lives this entire pandemic) and hair oils have been a huge part of my routine. And since it's been a while when I wrote a BEAUTY BATTLES post, let me start a battle between two of the best hair oils according to many beauty bloggers, influencers, and editors!

THE LOWDOWN

Mise En Scene Perfect Serum is one of the most popular serums and South Korea; it has sold over 1 billion units and considered as holy grail by many beauty authorities in the country-from influencers, editors, and celebrities. The secret behind its powerful softening and smoothing properties is the 7X Oil Cocktail complex that features Marula, Jojoba, Camellia, Olive, Coconut, Argan, and Apricot. It comes in
four variants.

Kerastase Elixir Ultime is dubbed as one of the best high end hair oils and treatments there is. The precious oil concoction that's behind this product's amazing smoothing and softening effects is comprised of Maize, Argan, Pracaxi, and Camellia. Every day, at least one bottle of Kerastase Elixir Ultime gets sold! Kerastase Elixir Ultime comes in about 3 variants, locally.

PRICE:

Mise En Scene Perfect Hair Serum starts at P559.00. Kerastase Elixir Ultime starts at P2,600.00.

Clearly, we know who's the winner here in terms of affordability!

WINNER: MISE EN SCENE

PACKAGING:

Mise En Scene Perfect Hair Serum comes in 70ml size and Kerastase comes in 100ml. Kerastase has 30% more product, but price gap between Mise En Scene is still huge to make the extra consideration to purchase former.

Mise En Scene comes in a pear- shaped bottle that's quite easy to grip and a pump dispenser. I dislike the applicator portion of this product because it comes with a cap that always pops off and doesn't seem to stay in place. Kerastase's packaging on the other hand comes in a curvaceous bottle that's easy to grip as well and a pump dispenser that can be conveniently closed and opened during usage.

WINNER: KERASTASE

QUALITY:

Mise En Scene has a semi- runny consistency, which makes it great for any hair type, even those with oily hair and those who dislike rich, emollient hair serums.

Kerastase has a richer consistency and perfect for those with very dry hair. It is not greasy, but some may find its consistency a bit heavy.

Both have good fragrance; Mise En Scene has a fresh floral fragrance and Kerastase has a perfume- like fragrance.

As for the formula, Mise En Scene has more oil extracts than Kerastase so technically, you get more benefits from Mise En Scene's formula.

WINNER: MISE EN SCENE

EFFECTS:

Both are really good at softening and smoothing the hair. But when it comes to lasting effects, Kerastase can soften and smooth the hair longer compared to Mise En Scene-maybe a day after usage, you'll still wake up with softer hair with Kerastase, but with Mise En Scene, the effect usually lasts for the day only. But it's not that important to me to wake up with really soft hair since I wash my hair on a daily basis so I'm okay with Mise En Scene's whole day effect versus Kerastase's long- lasting effect; that slight difference in benefit is not enough for me to justify the huge leap in cost.

WINNER: MISE EN SCENE

To summarize, both are really good and it really depends how much you want to spend on a hair oil, but one thing's for sure, whichever you choose, you're going to get your money's worth. Kerastase is a really good hair oil brand; in fact, it's my most favorite luxury hair oil and if ever I'll purchase a pricey hair oil in the future, I'll go for this in a heartbeat-this product has opened me up to the world of hair care and made me love oil- based hair serums.

But then again, times have changed and a lot of formulas and beauty technologies have improved already, especially in the affordable beauty category and Mise En Scene's fairly affordable and really good hair care products are proof. Kerastase either has to step up or create something new to generate new interest among the new beauty audience and attract previous loyal customers like me to the brand.

So our winner for today's beauty battles, battle of the best softening hair oil is....
