FAN MAIL FRIDAYS: Solutions for Oily Lids

I just finished with an at-home RF Treatment for my abs and thighs to compliment my workout routine. (Hey, if I can get leaner faster with the help of this, why not, right?) I'll talk about that soon, but for now, let's check out this query from Dessa:

Hi Martha,
How can I prevent my lids from being oily? I want to put on eye makeup, but in the middle of the day, it tends to pile up on my creases.

Hi Dessa!

I have oily lids too-they can even get really oily during summer-and this has pushed me to look for ways to remedy them so I can make my eyeshadows last or look decent at day's end, at the very least. These techniques worked mighty well for me and I'm happy to share 'em with you and with everyone! Click READ MORE now for my tips. :)

Opt for Cream, Long-Wearing Eyeshadow

- Long-wearing and waterproof cream shadows have film formers and silicones in them that help keep the pigments intact on your lids. If your lids tend to resist powder eyeshadows, go for these instead. my personal faces are Benefit's Creaseless Cream Shadows and Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24H Cream Eyeshadow.

Don't forget to put on primer

- I know, I know, powder eyeshadows are much easier to work with and they provide awesome, color gradient, but they can't stay on their own most especially on oily lids! That said, always apply eye primer first prior to using powder eyeshadow. My tried and tested primers are Smashbox 24 Hour Photofinish Shadow Primer, Kryolan Eyeshadow Base, Urban Decay Primer Potion, and Lime Crime Eyeshadow Helper.

Like using water with your powder eyeshadows? Use a makeup setting spray instead

- Water intensifies powder eyeshadows, that's a fact, but makeup setting spray does the same thing and helps prolong its wear time to boot!

Seal your eye makeup with a translucent powder

- This is a personal technique that I always do whenever I put on eye makeup (except eyeliner!). After applying primer and eyeshadows, I dab translucent powder all over my lids to stall oil production. Works every time!

Hydrate your lids to get rid of oil

- This is one of my daytime skin care techniques during summer: I apply a gel- based eye cream on my orbital eye to prevent excessive sebum production. When my skin has finally absorbed the eye cream, I proceed to applying eye makeup.

Hope this helps! Dear readers, kindly share your personal tips and tricks in combating oily lids on the comments section! :)

  1. I don't have oily lids so I really don't know how to prevent it. Thanks for the recommendation. I've seen products on your list that I haven't tried before. I'll definitely try those. I love Maybelline 24h cream eyeshadows as well. I have almost all the shades. I also use L'oreal infallible eyeshadows, and eyeshadow sticks from different brands (Nyx, Jordana, etc.) as they stick more to the lids. It just needs practice to master applying and blending cream eyeshadows.

  2. Good thing I don't have oily lids... but only oily face toinx. Uhm which one is the cheapest? But maybe I need a primer. The past eyeshadows I put don't seem opaque enough. I would need this especially on events held at night

  4. UDPP is the best! i also tried the Nyx eyeshadow base, but i still have smudges and creases... but i have found a way for somehow minimizing the smudging and creasing while using it... right after the base has set, i apply a loose mineral concealer on my lids... sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't... oh well... and yeah, some cream eyeshadows super smudge on me... at first i thought those nyx jumbo eyepencils would do the trick but they just did the opposite... i have heard a lot of good things about the maybelline 24-hour color tattoo, would probably try those out....
