That time of the year again where I round up the best makeup and skin care products of 2018!
For makeup, I have 76 products that I deem THE BEST of 2018!
Without further ado, here they are!
PRIMER:
- It's a light cream with a slightly tacky finish, which is what helps keep eyeshadow intact. It also has a light beige hue to even out any discoloration on the lids to help the eyeshadow colors come out more vivid and truer.
2. CÉLETEQUE 24- HOUR PHOTOREADY MATTE PRIMER
- A silicone primer that smooths the skin, helps create a more even surface for a flawless- looking foundation, and helps control oil.
3. MAKE UP FOR EVER STEP 1 PRIMER (RADIANT)
- A moisturizing primer with a peach tone that helps minimize discoloration, thus creating a brighter, more even skin tone. Works well in keeping makeup intact too!
- This is a light, slightly watery primer with mattifying properties; it also yields a light minty sensation that goes away in minutes; it has mild smoothing properties and keeps the skin surface matte for better makeup application and adherence. It has a light minty scent. A little goes a long way.
STAR PRIMER OF 2018: MAKE UP FOR EVER STEP 1 PRIMER (RADIANT)
FOUNDATION
- It has a fresh, gel- like texture that's breathable and spreads easily across the skin. It does not feel heavy, pasty, nor creamy at all, unlike most cream foundations (yes, even some high end ones); in fact, it feels like a soft moisturizer and that's one thing I love about it; I wonder how they're able to keep it lightweight despite the fact that it's cream foundation, but I guess the only explanation would be MAGIC!
- Consistency is light cream and virtually has no scent; texture is comparable to Fenty Beauty Pro Filtr foundation and you know what? Fenty's foundation coverage is just 20% better than this one! It's a very close dupe in terms of coverage and texture!
- Indeed, this product gives a flawless look as if there's literally a physical filter on top of your face. I can't believe how flawless I am when wearing this foundation!
- This foundation feels light! I love the coverage because it's full yet doesn't look like I'm wearing full coverage foundation. Staying power is pretty good at 5 hours before my t-zone starts to secrete sebum.
- If I had three thumbs, I'd give this foundation a three thumbs up; it's THAT good! I love how it's long- lasting and full coverage, yet manages to stay and look light on the skin! I can't believe I'll say this, but step aside for a little, Kat Von D Lock It Foundation, this is my favorite now!
10. INNISFREE MY FOUNDATION MATTE
- Finally, a Korean foundation that has shades for morenas! This foundation has intense coverage and really good staying power.
STAR FOUNDATION OF 2018: HUDA BEAUTY FAUX FILTER FOUNDATION
CONCEALER
- Staying power of Pixi's concealer is GREAT; no caking, fading, and creasing during wear. I also love the moisturizing effect it gives because it gives my under eyes a soft, fresh look the whole day. It's a good dupe for Tarte Shape Tape!
- I've applied four strokes all over my under eye without dipping into the tube for the second time. Great coverage, great, skin- looking finish, and I love how it fuses nicely into the skin. As for staying power, it is freakishly long- wearing that I can wear it to a workout. I even use it as an eyeshadow primer sometimes!
- I'm suffering from a terrible hormonal breakout and I've been covering my face with full coverage concealers lately because of this. :( Glad to know that Industrial Strength concealer delivers! It's a hard cream that needs to be warmed up to get it going, but when it does, it's easy to spread and covers well; I only used two layers to cover up my unsightly marks completely. The hard cream texture allows it to stay the whole day too.
- Aside from concealing, I also love using this product to create sharp under cuts on my eyeshadow looks; I find its formula ideal for concealing light eyeshadow powder fallouts and smudges on the under eyes because it literally covers them unlike other concealers with formulas that get diluted easily. Works great for facial concealing too!
15. PINK SUGAR OUR LIL' SECRET CONCEALER
- A lighter, for under eye version of their well- loved original. This medium coverage concealer is great for everyday use and has decent staying power, plus love the moisturizing consistency too!
STAR CONCEALER OF 2018: NARS RADIANT CREAMY CONCEALER
POWDER
- This is full coverage indeed! My skin immediately looked smoother and has minimized the appearance of some facial discolorations of mine in just one easy swipe. The sponge works well with the powder; I feel that it does justice to the product and delivers every pigment properly onto the skin.
- The powder doesn't feel nor look chalky at all because of its smooth, semi- creamy texture and moisturizing compounds in it, yet despite the texture, it performs well on my combination oily/normal skin; it stays intact the whole day and manages to keep my t-zone oil- free for about 3 hours; excellent performance for a very affordable powder foundation!
- It's like I'm well- rested whenever I'm wearing this powder! This is a very nice product to use to counteract full coverage, heavy matte foundation, to refresh the look of makeup, and to give your skin a midday glow boost.
- This is a wonderful multi-tasking powder. No wonder fans are raving about this and why some of my makeup addict friends have this in their kits! I don't recall liking a pressed powder this much, most especially a pressed powder THIS expensive! Charlotte Tilbury did a wonderful job at this powder and for sure, I shall repurchase!
- The powder foundation has a silky texture and yields a semi-matte finish; I like that the finish is a fresh kind of matte: lightweight- looking and feeling, doesn't feel heavy, and blends seamlessly onto the skin. It is unscented.
- Me with zero retouching for 5 hours. Heeeeyyyyy...this is so cool! I never expected that it would have really good staying power because it's just a powder, but I forgot that it's Our Lil' Secret, Pink Sugar's range of long- lasting bases.
STAR POWDER OF 2018: CHARLOTTE TILBURY AIRBRUSH FLAWLESS FINISH MICRO POWDER
BLUSH/HIGHLIGHTER/CONTOUR
22. EVER BILENA SHADE AND LIGHT CONTOUR POWDER
- A dupe for KVD Shade and Light palette; the contouring powders have a neutral tone, making it good for almost any skin tone; it's quite pigmented too.
- Instant Glow Long- Wearing Blush in Love is a pretty warm pink that suits morenas. It's very pigmented too and a dab is enough. True to advertised, this blush is long- wearing and I love the pocketable packaging.
- Staying power is very good! I would often wear this without anything on my skin, except moisturizer and SPF, and it stays the whole day! It can withstand oily skin, my workout, and sweat even without primer on. Another thing that I love about the range is that the shades have different color payoffs, unlike other lip and cheek tints that end up looking either red or pink only on the cheeks. Oh, no breakouts with the formula too!
- The blushes are very pigmented and texture is soft, buttery, and there's little to no fallout. They're also long- wearing! I can't get enough of this palette! I use it everyday and it's my best blush palette find of the year!
- Cheer Gradation Cheek is a pretty blush! Reminds me of MAC's previous ombre blushes. The ombre design is not just there for cuteness; it actually serves a purpose: the darker shade is for a contouring effect and the lighter shade is for a blushing/highlighting effect.
- I like that it's buildable, but doesn't look too glittery; I love the wash of shimmer effect that it imparts on the skin, plus it last pretty long too. I like using the rose gold shade on my complexion and the light gold shade to highlight my eyes.
- It can be applied over or under makeup and either way, it works great and appears on the skin! I love the fact that this tint can be applied over makeup, my preferred way of tint usage. The tint lasts the whole day too and doesn't run off even if you don't set it with powder (as long as it's applied over powder). I love it!
- At first, I thought this product isn't really doing anything, but after applying on all my glow points, I was like "Whoa!" because after seeing the full picture, it made my skin look naturally radiant, like I were 16, young, had great skin, and didn't worry about paying the bills LOL.
30. VICE COSMETICS AURA BLUSH
- Affordable, pigmented blushes with a wide shade range, includes a blush, highlighter, and powder, and it's mighty affordable!
- The highlighter seems to have less compact shimmer particles, which results to a more diffused glow, but you can build it up if you want a blinding finish. Best part is it doesn't look as if it's sitting on top of the skin.
- No need to fear copper highlighters anymore! The thing though is, not all copper highlighters are the same and so far, Sleek MakeUP's Copperplate highlighter is a really good choice because it offers four shades that will suit a variety of complexions.
- When I swatched the highlighters, they felt buttery and creamy, and when I swatched them, BAM! Didn't expect all that pigmentation! A little goes a long way with the highlighters and I love that there's one for every skin tone. I love swirling my brush all over Beverly Hills to get a warm gold highlight. The shades in Glow Up highlighter palette are great for morena skin!
STAR BLUSH, HIGHLIGHTER, AND CONTOUR PRODUCTS OF 2018: NARS WANTED II BLUSH PALETTE, BECCA SHIMMERING SKIN PERFECTOR LIQUID/POWDER, EVER BILENA SHADE AND LIGHT CONTOUR PALETTE
EYESHADOW
- The matte eyeshadows need to be on top of a creamy surface for it to adhere better or you can dampen your eyeshadow brush to give it a slightly creamy texture.
- There are endless ways to enjoy this eyeshadow palette. The reason why I got this is I've been meaning to have a go-to palette that features colorful eyeshadows and Box of Crayons fits the bill. I like that the colorful shades in here are what I have in mind, especially Blue--it's a bright, cobalt blue, a shade that I've been looking for for the longest time now!
36. EVER BILENA EYESHADOW PALETTE
- An affordable eyeshadow palette with eyeshadows that yield medium to heavy pigmentation; it's very easy to work with!
- The eyeshadow palette has very good quality and pigmentation. I specifically like the red shades; they complement my skin very well. The shimmer shadows cling nicely on the skin as well; pretty impressed by the formula, tbh. Overall, this is a very good palette.
- This palette is one of my favorites in the collection! The color combination is beautiful and the colors complement each other very well. The blushing metallic shades look beautiful on the lids, giving them a light wash of metallic color.
STAR EYESHADOW PALETTE OF 2018: TÉVIANT
EYELINER/EYEBROW PRODUCTS
- I'm obsessed with the eyebrow powder! It has a really good texture, soft focus finish, buildable coverage, and sticks on really well on the brows without staining the skin. It's so good to use when you want an ombre brow look and man, my brows look as if it's groomed by a makeup artist every time I use this brow powder! It's long- wearing, but not waterproof, and ideal for use by anyone, even if you're a pro or beginner in makeup.
- Texture is a soft, mousse- like cream and finish is matte. It sets fairly quickly so apply gradually and blend, blend, blend right away. It has no scent and pigmentation is heavy; I only need a light dot of the brow brush to get what I need. I'm guessing this will last me for more than 2 years even if I use it everyday; it's THAT pigmented!
- I find myself reaching for this brow pen more often because it's so convenient, easy to use, and pretty much has everything I need to design my brows; no need to pull out tons of products and spend time storing them away because of this pen! A+ for convenience!
- The consistency of the product is a light cream with a soft texture and matte finish; Natural Brown is a medium brown with an obvious yellow undertone while Mocha Brown is a chocolate brown; no shimmer whatsoever in the formula and when it sets, it doesn't budge!
- The eyebrow pencil is very easy to work with; I did not use the pearl powder here, just the pencil because I wanted a matte look that day. The eyebrow pencil is very pleasant and easy to use, plus it's very long- lasting; I can use this in a Crossfit session!
- The brow pencil has a slight waxiness to it and the paddle brush effectively loosens up the texture, spreads it with ease, and creates a more natural look.
45. STILA GLITTER AND GLOW LIQUID EYESHADOW
- A super glittery liquid eyeshadow! Perfect for glitter lovers plus it lasts long too!
- I use it on my upper lids and to perk up my lower lash line. It's pretty long- lasting; it lasted a whole night of partying on my oily lids!
- Liquid Fairy Lights is gel eyeshadow that's generous with glitter; it's like 90's all over again with this product! You can wear it alone or on top of eyeshadow to give it a high shine effect.
- The eyeliner is pigmented and easy to use, and what I like most about it is it's very easy to smudge and soften; it's a smudge gel liner after all and I like that they're true to their promise! Formula is waterproof, but removes easily with eye makeup remover.
49. EVER BILENA ALL DAY EYELINER PEN
- A pigmented, lasting eyeliner with a long- lasting formula; it's super affordable too!
50. BELL HYPOALLERGENIC WATERPROOF EYESHADOW STICK
- A hypoallergenic, contact lens safe, and safe for sensitive skin cream shadow with superior texture that's easy to blend and has great staying power!
STAR EYELINER AND EYEBROW PRODUCTS OF 2018: EVER BILENA ALL DAY EYELINER PEN AND BENEFIT BROW CONTOUR PRO
LIP PRODUCT
- Hydramatte Liquid Lipstick has an exceptional formula; I rarely find a liquid lipstick that my severely dry lips can tolerate and this is one of them so Gerard Cosmetics, expect me hoarding more soon! Highly recommended!
- The liquid has a smooth, light consistency; it's almost liquid and paint- like; it's lightweight, but feels sticky at first and needs to set for a couple of minutes for it to stay intact. This thing is pigmented!
- I like the soft focus matte finish of the lipsticks. Also, they're superbly pigmented (no patchiness!), feel like a matte lip balm, don't dry the lips, don't highlight dry areas, and stay significantly longer on than Matte Nudes. It is unscented.
- First off, I love the lavender/baby pink ombre look of the box! I'm into pastels nowadays and I dig the thing! One swipe is all you need to get a decent color payoff; what I love about this lipstick's formula is the rich, balmy texture that keeps lips moisturized the whole day; finish is semi- matte and stays put, but you still have to retouch during wear. Also, it gives lips a volumized look and has a lovely light, vanilla scent!
- I love this line for the concept and packaging! Quality of the lipsticks are pretty good too. I highly recommend this collector line and just because of the fact that it challenges makeup concepts and embraces our own culture.
- Dream Cream is a light creamy mousse with intense pigmentation as perfectly depicted in the photo; I didn't have to put my applicator back in the tube to get these pigmented swatches; well the product clings well on the applicator too and that's one factor.
- A cute, pigmented lipstick with the winning shade, My Love.
- I wasn't expecting it at all, but dang, this thing kept my lips protected and feeling normal in my entire OZ trip; that's 18 days of harsh cold weather and this product held up! I'm very happy with it because it's effective and so affordable at P125 only! I'll surely repurchase when I run out!
- Texture is a slightly creamy mousse, finish is demi- matte, and look is suede; it is unscented. I noticed that there's a bit of a tug when I apply the lipstick, but it doesn't hurt my lips; with this, consistency is much easier to control, thus minimizing stains, streaks, and uneven coverage during application. The way I interpret it, the 'tug' is a way for the formula to auto-regulate itself during application.
- This one is SERIOUSLY pigmented and rich! It has a moist matte texture and feels balmy on the lips; it doesn't dry out my lips, but tends to highlight dry patches so remember to exfoliate before usage. I love the color! Staying power is good.
- The lipsticks have a soft cream consistency; it doesn't drip around and spreads out nicely. It has a peppermint scent and imparts a light tingling sensation; it goes away after a couple of minutes though. That said, if you have a lip wound or sensitive lips, avoid wearing it first because it may caus discomfort. Pigmentation is medium to heavy and dries into a matte finish after about 2 minutes.
- The product sets easily and is long- wearing indeed; it can last through an entire meal! Texture of the lipstick is a lightweight cream; in terms of texture, consistency, and feel, it's similar to Kylie's liquid lipsticks; if you want to try Kylie's famed lipsticks without the price shock, try these!
- Texture is soft and a bit balmy; it soothes dryness and doesn't highlight patches. It feels moisturizing, but not heavy. Its texture is closest to Illamasqua matte lipstick, but this one is significantly lighter. Oh, it also has very good staying power; it doesn't budge easily!
- I like K-Palette 1 Day Tattoo Lasting Lip Tint Stick for the very hygienic format: it's only intended for the lips; no cross- contact on the cheeks and possible cross contamination too. I also like the fusion of tint, balm, and gloss because my lips can use a bit of moisture in this cracking hot weather and I'm digging gloss and tint nowadays too. I just wish that the tint would yield a slightly stronger tint after product has come off, but nevertheless, it's a product with its own merits.
- The lipsticks have okay staying power: it comes off when you eat so you definitely have to retouch, but if you're just going to have it on, it stays. One thing that I like about it, aside from the lovely cloudy texture, is it did not dry my lips at all. However, if you have very dry lips, moisturize and exfoliate first as it highlights dry areas and so that application won't be patchy.
STAR LIP PRODUCT OF 2018: GERARD COSMETICS HYDRAMATTE LIQUID LIPSTICK
MAKEUP TOOLS
- The bristles are very soft and quite dense; just washed these last night and there's initial shedding, but it went away right after. I like that there are no repetitive brushes, plus the selection is wide despite the price.
- Things I like about this brush set is: 1. All the brushes are useful despite some repetitive ones. 2. There's an ample amount of eyeshadow blenders YAS! This brush is my favorite when doing eye makeup! This brush set also has small and medium- sized brushes and they are perfect for ladies with small eyes whether Chinese, thin, and even Almond- shaped; Anne has really thought about this!
- I'm very happy with this purchase because it's affordable and I love, love, love the variety! I highly recommend it as a starter brush set for beginner makeup artists and those who love eye makeup. If you're a newbie though, this set may be confusing. Overall, I love it and I recommend it!
- These falsies are extremely lightweight, no sharp edges, and amazingly fit the length of lids! I didn't have to cut the ends anymore!
- The bristles have no odor and when I washed them, there was shedding, especially with the kabuki brush. I did the tug test on the brushes and they held up.
- From the shape to the softness to the texture, and to the bounce, it does feel like Real Techniques' sponge! It has no rubbery odor.
STAR MAKEUP TOOL OF 2018: RIOT POLYBLENDER
- The mist leaves face with a light, minty feel and it smells a bit like spearmint; totally relaxing and invigorating! The mist dries up pretty quickly as well. I LOVE THIS STUFF! This keeps my makeup intact for hours and keeps oil at bay for an extra hour more! Best part, I dig the minty feel so much!
73. KAT VON D LOCK IT MAKEUP SETTING SPRAY
- One of the best products of the Lock It series; this light setting spray has a good atomizer that dispenses a fine mist that covers my entire face effortlessly; it makes makeup look fresh the whole day!
- One of the best setting sprays out there! I'm in love! No breakouts too! This mist is great for you if you have oily skin, you hate the look of fading powder during midday, or if you're a professional makeup artist--your clients will love this stuff!
- The atomizer dispenses a light mist, controlling application every time. It's light, dries up easily, and the Rose scent makes me feel feminine. The mist yields a light cooling sensation, which helps close pores. Rose is my favorite variant, but the most popular ones are Coconut and Cucumber (the founder's favorite too).
- The mist has a nice rosy scent. It's light, refreshing, and feels hydrating, and gets absorbed properly. I like how my makeup looks instantly fresh after spritzing this on.
